Jan. 4, 2008

On Friday, our class met in the TV studio to do a package demonstration shoot. We are going to create a news package as a class, so we can learn the steps that are involved in creating a package. Before we started Jill explained how blogger.com had shut down our blogs because they thought it was spam. She also reminded us that we needed to find out person to interview and handed back out first story ideas. The first thing we did for our package was to shoot three interviews. Jill interviewed Jen, Neil, and Beth. She went over some basic interview tips. She told us to take the time to chat with the interviewee while the shot in being set up. This will make them more comfortable and more talkative. You should also ask them to say their first and last time, how to spell them, and what name they prefer to go by. Then we sat down and came up with the script for our stand up. We had to make sure that the stand up would show the audience something. We decided to highlight the anchor desk. Once we decided on what to say, we each got about three tries to shot our stand ups. It was a little challenging because we had to walk and sit down while talking, but it was fun. After shooting the stand ups we sat down at an Avid station and logged our interviews. We wrote out the quotes that we liked best and thought we might us. We also wrote down the time codes, so we would be able to find them later.
